You don’t have to be a great actor to deliver an awesome performance in your next sales video. In fact, you have the ability to make an engaging, exciting video right from the comfort of your desk! Feeling a little skeptical? Just follow these tips for creating a successful sales video and you’ll be on your way to closing more deals in no time.
Make it personal
Sales videos — they’re 1:1 and super personal. So, using a canned script might not get you the the exact response you’re looking for. After all, you don’t want to sound like you’re reading straight off a teleprompter. And when it comes to sales, you want to build trust with your prospect. Put your smiling face, shining personality, and helpful-self into every video you create, however short and sweet your video is.
Let your viewer known something special about yourself, or even just talk about the weather or what’s exciting you most lately. If this is a first touch sales video, use this as an opportunity to be a little more spontaneous and fun. Remember, you want to stand out in the inbox and make a real connection with the person on the other end of the line.
Get comfortable with your script
While you don’t want to use the same exact script over and over again, it’s still super important to be prepared before you start recording. Jot down a quick outline of what you’re going to talk about and read it out loud a few times to make sure it sounds natural.

Your goal here is not to have everything memorized and perfect, but to simply get into the flow of delivering your script so the words flow with ease. Think about it as if you’re delivering an in-person pitch, except this time, it’s right into the camera!
Getting comfortable with your script will help you sound more natural when the camera’s rolling and will add more personality to your video. When it comes to selling your product with video, you really want your authentic self to shine through — no one likes a robot.
Bring the right energy
It may sound surprising, but don’t be afraid to bring high energy to your videos. While you’re practicing reading your script and delivering your script into the camera, be as enthusiastic as possible.
We’re all actually a little more monotone than we think when using our reading and presenting voices as opposed to our natural speaking voice, so make it a point to turn up the energy when you do a take. It will actually come across as normal when you play the video back!
And if you’re having a hard time getting into the spirit, shake it out and get loose. Remember, it’s just a video — so be yourself. As a salesperson, you know the ins-and-outs of your product and business better than anyone else, so be confident. You got this!
Feature your face
We’ve talked about how important it is to include your faces in your marketing videos before on the blog, and the same is true for sales videos! Make sure your face is positioned front and center. Open up your webcam recorder of choice and take a quick look at your shot — make sure to position yourself in the center of the frame.
For the best, most professional-looking shot, we recommend raising your laptop above your eye line. This will give you a more flattering overall shot than just a laptop on a desk. Grab the nearest stack of books or box to prop your laptop up on, and adjust your angle accordingly.

Remember, before you click record, take a second to look around and clear up anything you don’t want in the video. Keep your shot distraction free so you can focus on your message!
Practice, practice, practice!
It goes without saying, but the more you practice, the better you’ll be at creating effective, engaging sales videos. You might be able to deliver a great performance on both your 1st and 100th video, but by your 100th, chances are you’ll feel more comfortable and relaxed talking into the camera. It can feel a little awkward at first, but when you see your sales stats moving up and to the right with the help of video, it’ll all be worth it!
As a salesperson, you’re communicating with tons of prospects every single day, so there are endless opportunities for you to become a master at using video to engage with them. The prospect will watch your video, you’ll make that connection, and hopefully…close the deal!
