This week, we’re saluting the tiny action camera that changed the way humans think about video. The GoPro has allowed people to capture scenes that have never been captured before. That has a lot to do with the GoPro’s wide-angle lens:
The wide lens, while amazing for capturing different perspectives, can also be a crutch of the GoPro. The GoPro has a wide lens, and only a wide lens.
This creates barrel distortion, better known as a fisheye effect. You can lessen this effect by changing the camera’s field of view from Wide to Medium or Narrow, resulting in a slightly more zoomed in shot.
We say, embrace the wide lens! Use it to your advantage and get creative. The GoPro’s wide lens is great for:
- Shooting in tight spaces like a car or a small room.
- First-person perspective shots.
- Fool-proof framing! This lens will capture everything, even if your shot’s off.
- Silly selfies and team photos.
This week, Wistia is saluting the GoPro. If you’re just tuning in, start from the top.
