Managing and organizing a video library can be a lot of work — not to mention making sense of all the stats your videos are accumulating! Chances are, if you’ve got a growing collection of videos that you’re sharing with the world, you’re aware of the time and dedication required to keep everything tidy and humming.
That’s why we’ve been working hard on rolling out some new features to help you upload, organize, and manage your video content like the champion you are. Three cheers for efficiency!
Reset your video’s stats
Like any content, video benefits from feedback before it goes live. Say you’re launching a new landing page — the sizing, appearance, behavior, and Timeline Actions all need to be tested prior to launch. During that testing phase, multiple people watch your video and their stats help you gain useful insight. Sounds great. What could go wrong?
Unfortunately, in the past, there was no way to clear this preliminary data, so it hung around and affected the video’s engagement data down the road. But it’s a new dawn. It’s a new day.
Now, you can reset the stats of a video by scrolling to the bottom of a video’s Stats page and selecting “Reset Stats.” Bye bye old stats. Hello meaningful data.
Pro tip: Check yourself before your wreck yourself. Once you click “Reset Stats,” you can’t get those puppies back.
Swap out the old, in with the new
Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to replace a video on your website without worrying about embed codes and messing up data. Exactly. Nobody wants to spontaneously raise their hand in an office. It’s embarrassing.
But seriously, the process of replacing your videos just became a whole lot smoother (and way less stressful). Speaking of smooth, here’s engineer Beth with the lowdown:
Now, you have the option of swapping out old video content with shiny new creations, and starting fresh with stats. We’ll save the old video along with its old stats in the same project.
Like Twinkies, those archived videos will always be around. This feature is ideal for A/B testing video content, replacing a homepage without inducing heart palpitations, or quickly updating several videos without the help of a developer.
Do the drag & drop
Yes, you read that right. You can now drag your media from your desktop into a Wistia project. We’re pretty excited about this one, and Lenny hasn’t slept for days! Although that might be due to all the chocolate he’s recently eaten. We’re not 100% sure.
As part of this update, we also revamped the Wistia uploader so that it’s faster, more reliable, and capable of supporting larger files (up to 8GB). It’s also built on HTML5, so that’s fun and fancy.
Pro tip: If you’re using the Google Chrome browser, you can drag an entire folder into a project. This flow is more intuitive and can save you time, especially if you are uploading lots of video.
The world (read: Wistia) is your video oyster (read: hosting software).
