How to Download Wistia Videos

Did you know that you can allow your viewers to download your Wistia videos? That’s right — if you send someone a link to your video with download permissions, they can download it in any file size and resolution they want. They can even get the video thumbnail. And if you want to let your viewers download one of your embedded videos, we’ve got a way for you to do that, too!

1. How to download a Wistia video from a share link

When you upload your video to Wistia, you can grab a video share link and then send it to anyone you want. They can watch the video without having to create a Wistia account.

Enable download permissions

First, you need to enable download permissions. To do this, open the project in your Wistia dashboard. Next, select “Permissions” on the left side of the screen to pull up the Privacy & Sharing Settings window.

In the Privacy & Sharing settings, make sure your project is unlocked (which should be the default option). Next, check the “Download” permission box in the “Anyone with a link” row. Hit the “Save” button.

And voila! Now anyone with the link can download your video file.

When your viewers want to download your Wistia video from the link, the process is as easy as one, two, three:

1. Copy the URL and open the link in a browser
2. Hover over the blue button in the upper right corner labeled “Video Actions”
3. Select the option to download the video

2. How to download a Wistia video from the player embed

When you embed a Wistia video somewhere, you can let your audience download it right from the embedded video player.

Enable download option

Before they can do this, though, you need to enable the download option. Here’s how:

Open up the video in your Wistia dashboard and then select “Customize” on the left side of the screen.

Find the “Share” tab about halfway down the list. Now, you’ll see options for sharing your video, including “Download.” Go ahead and check that box!

See that “Configure” link next to the “Download” option? Open it up. You’ll get to choose which version you want your viewers to download:

• Original
• Standard (SD MP4)
• High definition (HD MP4)

When you’re all done, don’t forget to hit that blue “Save” button. Anyone can now download your Wistia video straight from the embedded video player!

Now, when someone’s watching one of your embedded videos, they’ll see a “Share” button in the bottom right corner of the video player.

All they have to do is to hit it and then select “Download” to get the video.
